Dr Ciara Banks

Ciara (pronounced Kee-ra) is a warm, kind and intuitive clinical psychologist, with a talent for unearthing the roots of tricky problems.

Ciara is originally from Ireland, and has studied in Galway (Bachelor of Arts), Oxford (Graduate Diploma in Psychology), New York (Masters of Arts) and London, where she achieved her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at King’s College, London.

Ciara practises psychological therapies which are grounded in scientific evidence, and chosen to fit individual needs. She is trained in multiple approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy, compassion-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and dialectical behaviour therapy-based approaches, and is influenced by Bowlby’s writings on attachment theory.

Ciara also works for the NHS, providing highly specialist psychological interventions in an inpatient mental health hospital. She supervises assistant and trainee psychologists, and helps to select prospective trainees for clinical psychology training programmes.

Ciara has published several academic papers on the treatment of people with serious mental illness. Ciara also provides expert peer review for scientific journals and is currently developing a research proposal for a psychological model of inpatient care.
