Simon Mackmin
Following a ten-year career with the fire and rescue service, I completed a BPC
accredited clinical training in Psychodynamic Therapy in 2015. In 2016 I received a
first class masters degree in Psychoanalysis from Kingston University, and was
awarded a full doctoral scholarship to continue my research into building resilience
and improving employment outcomes for young people on the autistic spectrum
from a psychosocial perspective.
My PhD has seen me work with autistic coders and engineers at a number of large organizations, including Microsoft, EY, JP Morgan, and SAP, many of whom have contributed greatly to the development of my thesis. I also run a group for autistic adults and young people suffering from severe anxiety and social isolation, with a view to harnessing a sense of community, building resilience, and facilitating greater independence, and employment.
I have worked with adolescence and young adults with a range of presentations, including but not limited to, ASD and associated mental health conditions, Gender identity issues, ADHD, sexual abuse, and trauma.
In addition to my work with young people, I have worked as a psychotherapist in
NHS psychiatric settings, where I have both inpatient and outpatient experience of
psychotic illness and personality disorder. I have also worked extensively over the
last five years with members of the fire and rescue service suffering from PTSD.
I have undertaken additional clinical training in Mentalization-Based Treatment for
Adolescence (MBT-A), and Psychodynamic Therapy for children and young people.
