Teresa Pires is a Clinical Psychologist who has a range of experience working with children, adolescents and adults using a variety of therapeutic approaches. She completed her training as a Clinical Psychologist at ISPA-Instituto Universitario in Lisbon, Portugal.
Prior to moving to the United Kingdom, she worked at a CAMHS service in Lisbon and she helped set up a Psychology service within the Children’s Liver Transplant Unit of the hospital of Coimbra (Portugal). She provided psychodynamic therapy to children and young people, as well as a range of cognitive, developmental, and mental health assessments. There, she developed an interest for working with the networks around the children and young people, in particular helping parents adapt to their children’s illness and bond with their children.
In the UK, she worked with adults in primary and secondary mental health services, providing CBT-based interventions for depression and anxiety disorders. She co-facilitated an Anger Management group for adults at NELFT, East London. Teresa has completed additional training in other therapeutic approaches, including CBT and psychodynamic therapy with adults.
Currently, she works as a Clinical Psychologist in a Tier 3 CAMHS Service in North London. She provides assessments, formulation-led therapy to children and adolescents, as well as parent training. Teresa is particularly passionate about understanding children and young people in their complexity, including biological, unconscious, systemic, and intergenerational factors that might contribute to their difficulties.
Teresa supervises trainee and qualified Clinical Psychologists.
Teresa can offer therapy and assessments in both English and Portuguese.
